Joint Working and Community Leadership Conference
Working together to improve services
Sussex Improvment Partnership
5 September 2008, Holiday Inn, Brighton
You are invited to attend a conference which has been organised by Members
for all Members across Sussex. This conference will challenge how we can
provide high quality, value for money services that meet demand and keep
costs down through joint working and community leadership. It will also offer
you an opportunity to network with Members from all authorities across Sussex.
This conference has been sponsored by The Sussex Improvement Partnership and is free to all delegates. The event is being chaired by Councillor Carl Maynard, Chairman of Sussex Improvement Partnership; and we are pleased to confirm Stephen Taylor (Chief Executive, Leadership Centre) and Martin Richards (Chief Constable, Sussex Police) as guest speakers.
There are two workshops included in the programme, facilitated by Members, and whilst we will try to accommodate your first choice, you will have the opportunity to discuss both issues and share experiences during the morning:
Joint Working
- Does it work?
- What are the real benefits?
- Is it an opportunity or a threat?
- Is your authority leading the way?
Community Leadership
- Can you lead your community?
- Do you need to change the way you work?
- Does your authority support you to become a community leader?
Attached is the programme which provides further details of the event, and a booking form which we need back by 22 August - you do need to send this back to book your place if you previously expressed an interest to attend. You are welcome to complete it electronically and email it back or print it and return it to me in the post.
Contact details are ula.ostaniewicz@Brighton-Hove.gov.uk.
We hope you will be able to attend this challenging and interesting conference and look forward to receiving your booking form.

Communities and Local Government (CLG) has funded the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) to deliver a support programme which will improve local authorities and their partners’ ability to fulfil their Strategic Housing responsibilities.
The objective of this seminar series is for participants to gain a better understanding of the role of strategic housing in the place making agenda. For attendees it is an opportunity to discuss current issues and gain practical knowledge about the challenges of meeting housing supply in the context of growth and regeneration. Most importantly it identifies the role and potential housing can have in place shaping.
The seminars will be delivered in three full days in consecutive months. The dates for the London Training Programme are below :
- Seminar One - 8th September 2008
- Seminar Two - 12th November 2008
- Seminar Three - 10th December 2008
The IDeA has already subsidised this training from its full price of £405 per attendee for the full programme to the cost of £135 per attendee. We have funds from the 5 Towns Network to pay for five places along the Coast so this will be free to you. Due to high demand, BURA have stipulated that they can only guarantee one place per local authority and any additional attendees will be put on a waiting list.
