Are you interested in Public Art?
4th July 2008,
Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham-by-Sea

This event aimed to promote good practice in the implementation of public art in town centres across West Sussex and was attended by 19 delegates from Adur, Arun, Chichester, and Worthing Councils and also included the attendance from three locally based artists.  Delegates listened to presentations in regard to the revitalisation of Gateshead through the Angel of the North, Splashpoint regeneration from Worthing, Exempler case studies from across West Sussex, Public Art Scheme in Crawley Town Centre and Ropetackle Arts Scheme at Shoreham which included a tour around the key pieces on site.  Artpoint, a South East based organisation part funded by the Arts Council who advocate and establish opportunities for artists to create new work within public contexts also presented on the day about the key opportunities for us as a Network to build on what we are already doing.

Feedback / Comments :

  • Good range of case studies and good speakers
  • The talk from Artpoint proved very useful and all speakers knew their subject well and expressed this clearly
  • It would be useful to have repeat sessions/events to follow this up
  • Can we have a training session please on the evaluation of public art?
