Sustainable Communities Event
Tuesday 25th March 2008
Chatsworth Hotel, Worthing

Held at Chatsworth Hotel, Worthing and attended by 16 local authority staff and councillors, this event concluded the Learning Laboratories project for 2007/08, looking at lessons learnt and ways forward and how the Coastal West Sussex strip will continue to embed the capacity building programme for the future

Feedback / Comments

  • Greater understanding of recent developments in Bognor, SEEDA’s priority around education led regeneration and an interesting debate around members and officers engagement.
  • The debate by IdeA will help inform the future direction of the network and its priorities
  • I wanted to get the message over that I believe, through direct experience, officers in the planning process are de-motivated by an excess of regulation, monitoring and target setting. The good ones get out into private practice as consultants.
  • Many participants seemed to agree. I hope that those who can do something about this will take action; but I doubt anything will change.
  • It is part of the councillors’ responsibility to become approachable to the public and help them understand their community and the events going on within it. This would give many local people a better understanding of how processes work within council and more interest in their community activity and I believe in turn this would create relationships between local people.
