Activities of the Network

Each town has since developed a masterplan setting out a vision for the revitalisation of their town centres. As part of the development of the masterplans, each of the towns has undertaken extensive stakeholder consultation to agree priorities and actions to deliver on the ground.

SEEDA logoIn October 2006, the Network was awarded £1m of funding from SEEDA for 2.5 years. This is enabling the Network, through its local partners, steered by the Management Group and Coastal West Sussex, to take forward implementation of key proposed initiatives within the masterplans and through devolved authority the 5 Towns Network project is supporting these initiatives to get off the ground. The Network will also continue to provide a programme of capacity building, networking and skills sharing events and training. Working together in this way will maximise the benefits achieved through this funding and is set to attract over £50m of private investment into the coastal economy.

  • The development of a Coastal Investment Guide promoting Coastal West Sussex as an area for investment through WSCC.
  • Creating a welcome into the town and raising the awareness and investment at a localised level in Selsey.
  • Production of a Transport Study, a public realm strategy and a development brief for a prime site in Bognor Regis.
  • Funding in Littlehampton is being used to support research and development into the regeneration of Littlehampton Harbour and a development brief to take forward the key site of St Martins within the Vision.
  • The production of a seafront and public realm strategy and the development of a Retail Heart Development Brief and a report on options for the Cultural & Civic Hub development in Worthing.
  • In Shoreham-by-Sea, funding has been prioritised for a lighting and street scene in the Church area in the heart of the town centre and a significant project to create a Voluntary/Community Sector hub with the primary purpose being the realise of a key site for redevelopment.
